National Service Schem


The NSS Units 190 & 191 of Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur have always played a very active role in moulding social awareness and service mindedness amount students. Each unit enrolls 100 students as volunteers for NSS units. The tenure of volunteership is for two years. Activities of NSS units are controlled by the Programme officers of each unit. Mrs. Amrutha .T. V of English Department and Dr. Mithun of Malayalam department are the programme officers of Unit No:s 190 & 191 respectively. The NSS activities are mainly classified into regular and special camping programmes. All activities of NSS units are planned as per the guidelines from College Level Advisory Committee. College Principal is the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee.


The Units have on regular basis, conducted organic farming activities, distribution of food packets to needy, Charity activities like Parinaya sadya and Pain and Palliative Care Activities. Awareness activities against drugs and use of tobacco are conducted regularly in the Campus. The NSS units have adopted Kandanassery Panchayath as adopted village. The units regularly conduct several activities like Health Survey and cleaning activities. Seven day special camp for second year volunteers is the highlight of NSS activities. The camp focuses on nurturing social committement and instilling values of Community life.

Some major programmes organized by the NSS Units 190 & 191 are as follows.


Environment Day Celebration: 

The World Environment Day was on June 5, 2019. On 14 June 2019, 30 tree saplings were planted inside the campus. These include Jack fruit, Guava, Pomegranates etc. The College Principal interacted with the students during Environmental Day Celebrations and gave proper advices to protect our environment.


Awareness Class against Child Labour:

On 12 June 2019, Social Activist Panchamy Babu delivered an awareness class to NSS volunteers. Students participated the poster making competition organized by NSS volunteers as a part of this awareness programme.

“Vayana Dinam and Vayana Varacharnam”

On 19 June 2019, a recitation competition was organized by NSS for degree students of our college. Moreover, poem writing completion was organized on  in various departments as a part of vayanavaram from 18 June 2019 to 22 June 2019. Books were given as prizes to the winners.



NSS SKC has conducted a competition named ‘Dashapushpam’ on the basis of ‘Karkkidakam 1’. The

competition was about the ‘Dashapushpam’ , our culutral concept. Game starts with a random

selection of a pic of ‘Dashapushpam’ and identifying it. The game helped to measure the cultural

awareness status of this generation. Aishwarya from B.Sc. Mathematics 2nd year was the winner.

Programme started at 12:30PM and concluded at 1:30PM.

YOUTH SKILL DAY (17-7-2019)

NSS SKC has conducted a musical evening named ‘MEHFIL’ on 7th July 2019. The programme was

conducted by the part of Youth Skill Day. It was not just a musical evening, also a workshop on

Tabala and Music. Tabala workshop was lead by Ravi Balagopal, Interzone Hat-trick winner on Tabala solo and also a former SKC student. Music session was lead by Ayisha, D Zone winner on vocal, also student of SKC. They made a wonderful musical session also with the background of Tabala. Musical evening was conducted 2:00PM – 4:00PM


Health Awareness Class (24-7-2019)

An orientation class was conducted on 24th July. The class was about the importance of destruction

of mosquitoes from the surrounding. Class was taken by Mr.Manoj, Health Inspector, Kandanassery PHC. He also conducted a session on the survey at next day conducted by Kandanassery Panchayath about the situations of breeding of mosquitoes.


Health Survey (26-7-2019)

NSS SKC participated in a survey, which was conducted by Kandanassery Panchayat. Aim of the

survey was to study about the breeding of mosquitoes in the panchayat, and to destroy it.

Ariyannoor was our survey area. We covered every house in Ariyannoor and found the possible

situations for the mosquitoes. We destroyed the origins as we can and calculated it. Survey took 1

and half hours.(2:00PM – 3:30PM)



On the Breast Feeding Week Celebration, NSS SKC was conducted an orientation class to PG

students of Sree Krishna College on 5 August 2019.Class was taken by Health Department. So manyHonourable persons were appeared on the programme. Assistant Health Inspector Mr. Prem Raj,Child Development Department Representative Mrs. Shima, Anganavadi workers from Kandanassery, Mattom, Koonammoochi and Ariyannur were decorated the chairs. Public Health Nurse of PHC Mattom, Mrs. Lala led the orientation class.


Flood Relief :

On the Independence day, NSS SKC has decided to open a collection point at college as a relief fromKerala Flood 2019. Volunteers reached at college on 10:00AM with essential materials for rescue camps.Volunteers collected various things like, Flour,Napkins, Biscuits etc. from the nearby houses in Ariyannur. The collection point was a great foot step and we collected relief materials from the people. The materials were transported to Thrissur Collector Office after 3:00PM.

Mental Health Awareness (17-8-2019)

A Mental Health Awareness Class were conducted at Government Mental Health Centre, West Fort,Thrissur. Two Volunteers attended the class.. Programme was very intensive. They could distinguish various  type of mental disorders and  they were allowed  to  interact with the patients.. There are numerous patients inside the center. Someone were a little violent, and some

were littile gloomy.

 Visit to Smrithipadam – Dementia Center (7-9-2019).

NSS SKC celebrated their Onam with alzheimer patients on 7 September  2019. We visited a Dementia Centre – Smruthipadham at Kunnamkulam. They are providing intensive care for alzheimer patients daily. Volunteers have decided to celebrated Onam with them. There were 9 regular patients at Smrithipadam. Volunteers visited the center and provided a ‘Onasadya’ for them. We interacted with them and staged some cultural programmes to make them satisfied and happy.


Parinaya Sadya (12-09-2019)

NSS SKC and Athazhakkoottam, Guruvayur mutually volunteered at a marriage function at Pancharamukku Guruvayur. The family was financially little backward. So we hrlped them to serve food for the guests. Food was prepared by Athaazhakkoottam with the leadership of Mr.Shabeer. 1st year volunteers were participated at the function with their full energy and responsibilities. They have coordinated the food session with a great leadership like professionals. It was a different experience for all.

NSS DAY (24-09-2019)

On November 24th, NSS SKC celebrated theNSS Day with a flag hosting. Programme started at 10:00 AM.Programme started with NSS Prayer by college quire. Prof.D.Jayaprasad, Principal, SKC

inaugurated the programme and spend some time to speak with volunteers. Prf.Vijoy also spoke withvolunteers and gave a message about service. He gave some importance guidance on future NSS programmes and shared his ideas about NSS and Social services.



NSS SKC and Yuvakendra mutually conducted a Speech Competition on 27th Septmber 2019. The topicfir the speech is “Patriotism And National Building”. 6 Volunteers were participated for the competition. Each and every one has shared their own vision on the topic. All the participators were encoraged whole audience with energetic words. Sangeeth from 3rd Year Bio Chemistry was selected to the next level competition.

GANDHI JAYANTHI (02-10-2019) Railway Station Cleaning

On 2nd October, we have cleaned Guruvayur Railway station.. We e reached guruvayur railway station at 10:00 AM. Three nearby colleges were also participated in this programme. The duty applied on us was, clean a big portion of the station without any plastic material and weed.

Transgender Awareness Class:

In association with Social Welfare Deaprtment of kandanassery panchayath, NSS Units organized a painting competition for students on 25.10.2019 morning. In the after neeon, Ms. Sheethal Shyam (Transgender Activist) interacted with our volunteers and deivered a . It was really an exciting experience for them.


Training Programme for Palliative Care:

On 11 November 2019, we organized a palliative care training programme for NSS volunteers in association with Pain& Palliative Care Society, Thrissur.  An orientation class was conducted by Ms. Jyothi Jayan, co-ordinator for Students’ initiative in Palliative care, Pain & Palliative Care Society, Thrissur. Prof. Gokuldas (Former HoD of Zoology & Famous Social activist in Thrissur) inaugurated the event. Mr. Akhil, student volunteer in Palliatie care also interacted with voluntters. The aim of this programme was to select some student volunteers from our college for involving them in palliative care activity. After this exciting programme, seven volunteers from NSS SKC units actively involved in the palliative care activities on every Sunday. These students got chances to visit the patients with palliative workers in nearby places in Thrissur town. The volunteers intercted with the patients and it was a great relief for the patients.


Children’s Day Celebration:

On 14 Novemeber 2019, we invited the kids and teachers of Anganwadi, Ariynannur. The volnteers interacted with the kids and such an interaction was really interesting for the volunteers as well as the kids.


Flash Mob at Guruvayur:

A flash mob was conducted by the NSS volunteers as a part of Rally organized by Life Care Movement Society, Guruvayur on 22.11.2019 to promote palliative care activiites.


Human Chain : World AIDS Day at Thrissur:

Volunteers actively involved in Human Chain at Swaraj Round organized by the District Police, Thrissur.

Postal Day Celebration:

Postal day celebrations – October 2019

“Sandesam Post cardiloode” was the theme of programme which made awareness about post office activites of India Govt. A large no; of teachers and students participated in the programme by writing letters to their friends using inlands.


Data Collection Survey – in connection with Mahatma Gandhi NREGA State Mission


On 23 February 2020 & 25 February 2020 Volunteers actively involved in the data collection survey organized by the Chowannur Block Panchayath for collecting data in connection with Mahatma Gandhi NREGA State Mission. Thirtee three volunteers wer participated in this programme in 16 wards of Kanadanassery Panchayath.


Activities conducted on regular Basis:


  1. Organic Farming
  2. Swach Bharath cleaning inside campus and Campus premises.
  3. Annapoorna – Distribution of food packets (at least 30) on every Wednesday with the Help of Athazhakootam in Guruvayur town to the needy people. Volunteers collect food packets from teachers and students and distribute these to poor people in Guruvayur Town.

Aims of NCC

The motto of NCC is “Unity and Discipline”. ‘Unity’ implies our basic oneness, the brotherhood of all the Indian people regardless of their caste, colour or creed. Likewise, ‘Discipline’ is the very bedrock on which any nation is founded. It is for these reasons that “Unity and Discipline” has been adopted as motto of the NCC.
